To be clear I have never been to the Glasgow Credit Union, but I like the building it's housed in which used to be the COOP offices for the whole of the UK and dates back to a time when the COOPs grandeur and power was epitomised by their Headquarters. Now housing offices and shops this grand building is arguably the best on the south side of the river

In no way are they the company of the past. They're not a credit union anymore, they're just like a high street bank.
If the computer says no then that's that, I asked why have an underwriter ? What's the point and then pretended to ask the underwriter to look at it and surprise! Still declined for no reason.
I've been with them for about 12 years or more and never not paid and have had a couple of loans with them.
I've read their accounts and balance sheet and looked at the directors and think i know what's going on.
To sum up if you're looking for a proper credit union.
Keep looking.
Helps if you work for the council though....

I have been a customer with GCU for over 6 years, I recently had a loss in my family, I approached GCU explained the situation & was told I had to go through credit check, I believed these credit unions were set up to help their members, I was refused a loan This is not A Credit union it's just another Gov.Uk Bank, I will never use it again.

I have been a member for 30 years and love the credit union. Over the years all of my home improvements and vehicles have been funded by loans from here, because they are so much better than any other loans. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the online site is very easy to negotiate. I will remain a member for life, thank you to all.

I have been a member for years and have used their mortgage service on multiple occasions and all I can say is they are completely useless. Their customer service is non existent. They ignore emails and take ages to get back at you (if you're lucky) but mostly not at all. They also discriminate against pregnant women so I would avoid this company at all costs.

Great organisation, I have been a member for over 25 years and they have help with holidays, buying my first flat, my wedding and so much more! Lovely friendly, helpful staff. Still live in hope of getting that phone call to say, your our big lottery winner!! One day maybe

I have been with Glasgow Credit Union from the first day it started in a basement office within the city chambers offices with 2/3 staff members. I’ve always been treated courteously and confidentially by members of staff whenever I’ve had to contact the office. The CU has come a long way since those first days and has managed to move along with the times offering more financial products. Its so easy to save / withdraw your money and the app that was developed makes it so easy to see and do certain things on your account.

Not sure how a previous reviewer found it difficult to contact. You phone up, and if nobody is available that moment you get an option for immediate call back whilst retaining your place in the queue.
I personally, have found every single person I have dealt with to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable and its been an absolute pleasure dealing with the staff they have.
You don't feel you are being "judged" in a way that large financial firms are renowned for making u feel.
My only regret is having not joined years ago when I was a teenager.
