Decade member status. Don’t ever get a credit card here. Worst service ever and questionable practices on personal information security.
Their 3rd party automated system runs you around and around. No one at the actual office when called can do payments for you, they tell you to call the number on the card…which only, says “call if card is lost or stolen”….it doesn’t say call for customer service.
I simply wanted to pay it off, with a person, and be done, but then they tell you it’s a $25 dollar service fee to do so, and if you don’t have the physical card with you are out of luck using their automated system or online banking.
The rep we spoke with said “we work for Texas DPS” but when you actually ask questions they admit they are offshore and can not even tell you your interest rate or transaction history, open date, they can not even close your card when you call the number on the back of the card. They say to call the credit union in TX, admittedly they are not employees of this institution but this institution has chosen the worst outsourcing you can find.
So I can give my money to some random phone line off shore and a $25 fee, but nothing else, and the person on that phone line can not close my card.
Their service only does payments. It’s a frustrating system.
I have had cards with Amex, Citi, Discover, and APlus and UFCU and FNBO and other out of state credit unions and banks over the years, allllllll could tell me more in a phone call than this place does, and never never never charge me to pay them, offshore or not. None of my financial institutions ask for $25 dollars to pay off a card.
Keep in mind, this was a “backup” for if my debit card at another institution was out of commission for “fraud” or “lost”…I literally just wanted to pay off a couple hundred dollars and they wanted to charge $25 for it to happen.
Ridiculous.
We are fortunate enough in our lives to not “need” credit cards for daily life like some I know do. All of ours are paid off, and every single other one never had us pay an extra fee to give them money. We keep them for “just in case”.
This particular one was only used for the one off purchases when our debit cards were unavailable for unforeseen reasons. We kept our membership because we loved Austin when we were there. This was once a good place. Go back 20 years, fantastic! My kid even had a savings there.
It was once a place that everyone knew everyone and cared to help. Reading other reviews it sounds like more of a train wreck now than it was 10 years ago plus.
It’s gone down hill since the day Shirley Baker walked out the doors in terms of being a good place. The history of this place isn’t honored as it should be.
We are closing our membership, they want to look fancy and act like a big credit union, but they are not that, and if you move, good luck having help. They spent so much on a remodel to be “relevant” and should have instead hired adequate and trained staff to handle their matters “in house” instead of outsourcing to whatever company they decided to use.
I asked the representative when trying to make a payment, what company they were with, they refused to say the name or give any details except “offshore”….so whatever 3rd party they use, they can not even say we are with “Insert Name here, and are contracted by Texas DPS CU”……:
I’ve researched offshore call centers, I know a thing or two, and this one gives the heebie jeebies, allllll others ever tell me who they work for really. After this payment for this card I’ll be changing my checking account number.
American Express will give you exact details on who and where anytime….apparently Texas DPS CU doesn’t have a company willing to give out the details of who exactly is processing payments….
This credit union exists primarily for the fact they have their auto loan portfolio and other loan programs, they can’t do what other credit unions do. Daily banking is not a priority.
Better service can be had else were.
I highly suggest A Plus or UFCU if you are in the area. They also do better at keeping your information safe.

I have been a member of Texas DPS Credit Union for at least 15 years. Every employee is very personable, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I have had two cars financed by TXDPS Credit Union — and no one could beat their low finance charge. I love coming to visit when I have to do business with my account. Thank you also for the Client Appreciation Day!

I’ve banked with multiple credit unions since 2012. Due to me working at the city, county, federal, and now state level, I normally open an account with the promoted banks just to build a relationship with them. This by far has been the worst experience. December 8, it took nearly 3 hours + to open a checking and savings account (that’s another story). December 10, I applied for a personal loan. It is December 14, I still have no loan. I keep getting the same reply, “it’s been pushed up, you should receive a call in a hour.” 3 to 4 days later still no call; I have to call for updates. I’ve applied for loans before with previous credit unions and have never experienced this treatment. Even when I was young with little to no credit. I get that I’m new to the department, and a new member, but you would think by looking at my credit history my new job position/ title I would have been approved for a loan much sooner. I’m beyond annoyed at this point because I needed to go out of town for an emergency and I’m still dealing with this issue that should have been handled days ago. If a person applies for a loan, they need the funds ASAP not several days/ a week later.

I have been a customer for 20 years. Have had numerous loans and have not had any significant issues up until recently. I use to deal with Dennis who was always professional and knowledgeable about his job. I recently purchased a used Harley-Davidson from Kansas through the loan department and it has been a train wreck every step of the way with the credit union. No one seems to know the exact forms they need. The final step was when they pulled the $1275(ttl) out of the wrong account. Im still working on title transfer as we speak because they still cant figure out what forms I need for DMV. They have officially lost me as a customer until they can manage the loan department and employee qualifide people. Extremely disappointed. I see on other post they have a generic response. If all they can do is autobout a response. Well the speaks volumes to there customer service.

Update. Were still having problems with paperwork as of 9/27/23. First payment comes out next week. Thats how long its been.

We have been with DPS Credit Union since 1985, and they have always had a great experience with car loans and personal loans. I highly recommend DPS Credit Union for your banking needs.

The DPS credit union is a great place when it comes to holding/handling your funds. Going in person is always a pleasant time, they’re always there to help you right then and there. But when it comes to on the phone, the customer service lacks communication and full transparency. When requesting documents and trying to hear back about the confirmation about them, you can go ahead and assume they will not call you back. The supervisor there is hardly there to assist customers as well. So if you’re trying to look for a credit Union to enroll yourself in, go ahead and look elsewhere. On top of that, their website and app is below average and needs a lot of help. It’s not efficient in any way and the back in tech of it is sub par.

I've enjoyed being a customer at the credit union but I had an awful experience with Russell. He is very condescending which is not appreciated when you are asking for your own funds. I am considering changing financial institutions, instead of dealing with him again.
