I received a phone call back from Lisa and once we were in contact, everything that I needed to accomplish went smoothly. Lisa was very helpful and knowledgeable in every aspect and I was very happy with how quickly things got taken care of. So, although it took some time to finally connect with Lisa, I am very happy with everything she did to help get things taken care of.

Last week I called to speak to someone in the mortgage/lending department and never received a phone call back. I called Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then this week I called Monday morning and was told Lisa tried calling me back, but I didn't answer. I was given her direct line and left a message and I'm still waiting for a call back. This is extremely frustrating and they need to do better.

I walked in to ask why they put a hold on my payroll, printed, and mailed to me check, not some hand written deal a real check. My first check from my new job and they put a hold on it. I begged for them to release it this after they've held it 4 days and I waited 3 weeks to get paid in the first place. My direct deposit was set up but that takes a check or two. The person behind the counter said she'd talk to the manager and call me to tell me something, i guess he was too busy to spreak to me. She also said she have no idea why they would hold a payroll check that's unheard of. I never got a call back still waiting and it's been almost a whole week. I have bills to pay and I'd bet everything they will charge me a nsf fee if I try and pay them while I wait for them to give me my money.

Very recently, my elderly mother who was a member there for nearly 30 years and resident in town for well over 30 years went in to inquire about a loan. She asked for a quote and what she got was loan paperwork. She knows very little about the processes of getting a loan since she has owned her home for decades but need a loan to make some major repairs. What she got was actual loan documents...with zero explanation OR offers for other loan products. They attempted to put my mother into a HELOC with an interest rate of 8.25 % She has a credit rating well over 800. I told her NOT to sign that and when I called the loan officer (Alexis) she indicated she did explain the loan and other products to my mom. That's a lie...she did not. She then went back into this branch asking for another quote for a fixed rate loan with pricing at 15 and 30 years, and they once again, ran a full loan package and ran her credit report again, even though they had run it less than 5 days before. Nobody explained a single thing to my mother about the 50 page document and the interest rate they offered her with a stellar credit rating was higher than it should have been. To me, this SCREAMS predatory lending, and obviously there a was a serious lack of customer service. This past Monday, she closed both of her accounts there at my suggestion, and took her business to Huron Community Bank where they were happy to help and the loan officer gave a great quote, explained the process and brought up the intent paperwork from Tawas for my mother to sign. Thank God I was paying attention to her financials...God only knows how many other elderly people they have taken advantage of. Don't waste your time or money here and watch your elderly friends and neighbors.

I love my local tellers at the branches but call center is awful. They would rather belittle you than help you. Do not call in with issues. They will treat you like it's a chore to help you. If the tellers at my local branch weren't so wonderful, I'd close my account. The 1 star is for them.

I've been a member for forty years and I have no complaints. The staff and services have been great over the years. Just this weekend I was scammed (my own mistake to take a phoney survey that gave prizes, just pay shipping) so I had to go in this morning and cancel my Mastercard. In minutes I had a new card in hand, no waiting. I've taken out loans many times at reasonable interest. I know I can count on Northland Credit Union. I wouldn't think of changing.

I do not trust this Northland Area Federal Credit Union!

Here is a copy of a recent letter I sent to my other bank which is Huntington Bank:
"I want to thank you and Rikki at Huntington Bank as she gave me a phone number to contact Transunion after Northland Area Federal Credit Union employee, Lesa Ebend, pulled my credit report without my permission. I had only asked NAFCU for information about a Credit Line loan. I did not tell them I wanted to apply. I felt the employee was asking too many questions of me and thought, "She better not be pulling my credit,", so I spoke up and told her, "I do not want my credit pulled, until I know where exactly I am going to get the loan." She replied back with an "OK".

When I returned home, I turned on my pc and saw an alert stating that Northland Area Federal Credit Union pulled my credit! I was furious and concerned to say the least!

I called Huntington Bank and talked to Rikki and she gave me the Transunion phone number.

Transunion actually talked to me and told me what to do to remove it from my record. Of course, NAFCU would not apologize to me and took no blame in what they did. They only gave me the letter I asked for to send to Transunion but the letter said, "Please remove the inquiry, as this was a mistake." This was no mistake on her part!

The assistant manager, Matthew Shaw, at NAFCU, asked what the problem was, as I had, the day before spoke with him, too, about financing, and he offered no response towards me in light of the fact that employee, Lesa Ebend, from the institution, did a gravely wrong thing to me by pulling my credit. I do not wish to do business with them ever again.

Those "hard" credit pulls stay on your report for 2 years! I worked hard to get my score to excellent. I do not need some incompetent scammer messing it up for me.

Huntington never asked to pull my credit. They responsibly pre approved me, first, and gave me the information I asked for about the various loan options.

When I am ready, again, to finance, I will definitely come to Huntington!"

(UPDATE: Northland Federal Area Credit Union did respond to this review months and months ago (below) and said they would investigate, but I have not been notified about any part of it and I doubt anything has been done about this so it does not happen to other members).

Best Credit Union I have ever worked with!!! The girls in the Oscoda office all take really great care of my elderly father. They have helped out so much. Thank you so much Jamie, Lindsey and all the staff who has helped our family!!!

I DON'T EVEN WANT TO GIVE ONE STAR BUT I HAD TO IN ORDER TO MAKE A REVIEW POST! Horrible! Three times in the past year I have had to return to sign papers that they "lost"! Seriously lacking in the member service efficiency department. Members are NOT their top concern. Too many hands in the cookie jar and NO ACCOUNTABILITY! Ridiculous!
